Field Trip 6 SEG FIELD TRIP Leached capping and enrichment in porphyry copper deposits of Arizona and New Mexico Leaders: Spence Titley, Ralph StegenTrip is full, new registrants will be wait-listed Date: Saturday, September 22 through Monday, September 24, 2007 Cost: Early Registration: Members $395, Non-members $545, Students $245 Regular Registration: Members $495, Non-members $645, Students $345 No. of Participants: Minimum- ; Maximum- 30 Starting Location: Hilton El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort, Tucson, 6:30 am, 7:30 am from the Marriott Description: Priority for this field trip will be given to registrants of the SEG Symposium; any remaining slots may be filled by Ores & Orogenesis registrants (although this is considered unlikely to happen). Itinerary: Trip will depart Saturday morning. Saturday, September 22 Trip will depart from two locations in Tucson: First pick-up will be from the Hilton El Conquistador Hotel, 10000 N. Oracle Road in Oro Valley Registration 6am Depart at 6:30am A second pick-up will be from near the University of Arizona at the Marriott University Park Hotel, 880 E. Second Street Registration at 7:00am Depart at 7:30am Driving time to Safford, Arizona is about 2.5 – 3 hours Arrive at Dos Pobres Mine Complex Introductory lectures and presentations: Safety orientation Dos Pobres – San Juan geology and ore deposits by Jeff Gerwe, Exploration Manager Operational overview of the Dos Pobres mine by Ron Lowery, Chief Engineer Capping Characteristics and Interpretation of some SW Porphyry Ores by Spence Titley Afternoon field visit to the Dos Pobres and San Juan deposits Sack lunch provided during field visit Overnight in Safford, Arizona at the Quality Inn No group dinner or presentation scheduled Sunday, September 23 Breakfast (each person’s responsibility) Check out of hotel Depart hotel at 7am Drive one hour to Morenci Morenci geology conference room Safety orientation Geology and mineral deposits of the Morenci deposit by David Parker, Chief Geologist Operational overview by David Parker Field visit to the Morenci mine Sack lunch provided during field visit Drive two hours to Silver City, New Mexico Overnight in Silver City at the Holiday Inn Express No group dinner scheduled Monday, September 24 Breakfast (each person’s responsibility) Check out of hotel Depart hotel at 7am Drive 25 minutes to Tyrone Tyrone mine training building Safety orientation Geology and ore deposits of the Tyrone mine area by Ralph Stegen Operational overview by David Princehouse, Senior Geologist Field visit to the Tyrone mine area Sack lunch provided during field visit Depart Tyrone 4:30pm Return to Marriott and El Conquistador Hotels by 6:00 and 6:45pm respectively Meals: Lunch is included for each of the 3 field trip days. |
