A transect through the accreted terranes of the northern Canadian Cordillera
Trip is confirmed; sign ups for this trip end August 10

Leaders: Maurice Colpron (Yukon Geological Survey), JoAnne Nelson (British Columbia Geological Survey), Steve Israel (Yukon Geological Survey)

Date: Wednesday, September 19 through Monday, September 24, 2007

Cost: $630.00

No. of Participants: Minimum- 10; Maximum- 30

Starting Location: Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

Ending Location: W
hitehorse, Yukon, Canada

Description: This trip will focus primarily on the accreted terranes of northern British Columbia and Yukon. We will first examine rocks of the Laurentian continental margin on the east, traverse the Intermontane terranes (which evolved along the western edge of the Laurentian plate), and end in rocks of the Insular terranes on the west (terranes that are exotic to western Laurentia). Recent developments in the interpretation of the tectonics of the northern Cordillera will be discussed. The accreted terranes are hosts to numerous and varied ore deposits, and the metallogeny of these terranes will be an integral part of the trip.
